Final Accountability Post Camp Nanowrimo

Well, I didn't quite make it. 

Final count: 37,199/50,000

 

My plan was to do one big burst at the end and push through the last 13,000 in a few days, but life didn't agree with that. Either way, I still produced a lot of words this month and now I get to spend August finishing up the last of my stories and editing.

So much editing!

I'm still glad I used the push to get a lot done, even if I didn't meet every goal. I made progress on several planned projects and on a few other surprise ones. 

The next Nanowrimo event is the big one in November. I don't think I'll be doing a whole bunch of little stories then. Probably going to just focus on 1-2 larger projects, although I haven't decided what those are yet.

Original Review written September 11, 2016 on Goodreads (slightly edited here) Heroines starts off with an intriguing premise. Ann-Marie and her daughter, Penelope, maintain a boarding house in the 1970s, and from time to time Heroines from various novels/plays/stories will come and visit them. There is only one rule: you must never interfere with a Heroine's fate. Little Penelope is 13 and on the cusp of womanhood as a daring Hero (or Villain?) arrives chasing down his lost heroine. She is drawn to this dashing stranger and resents the heroines for monopolizing her mother. Sounds pretty sweet, right? Well, in actuality, it's not bad. It's pretty awesome to see the Heroines outside of their story. Top Books I Read in 2024

Another year of reading complete. Another end of year top book list. This year, I focused more on short stories and have also posted a list of top short stories that I read this year. My total number of books stayed relatively constant - 70 in 2023 vs. 65ish* in 2024, but that includes short story magazines. 2024 was a complicated year for me, personally. A lot of good things happened - trips with family, and some sad things - had to put down my old doggie. I left Twitter and embraced Bluesky. I also started an author newsletter and put together my first story collection. But this space is for the books I read this year, so here are the ones that stayed with me. Billy's Special Blanket             Billy tightened the blanket his mother made him around his head. She promised no monsters could hurt him through his special blanket.        The closet door creaked open and all of the monster’s legs spilled out. It crawled across the floor and up onto the bed. A multitude of legs prodded Billy. The monster roared when it could not breach the blanket’s power. In fury, the monster flailed about, destroying Billy’s room.        His parents charged down the hall and through the door.
