Death House

    My favourite horror trope has always been a haunted house. Particularly, a young couple gets an excellent deal (or inherits) a country estate full of dark secrets. They unwittingly unleash an ancient evil and suffer a horrible fate. So when I saw that Raven and Drake Publishing had a death house book coming, I was excited to read it.

    The stories in this collection do not disappoint. They vary widely in length from microfiction to full-length short stories. This variety kept me guessing about how long each story was going to be and added an air of mystery.

    I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys haunted houses and general horror.

“Eighteen terrifying tales of what lurks behind the veil.” I’ve now read several collections from Eerie River and even with one theme, they always deliver a wide variety of stories, characters, and chills. Top Ten Books I Read in 2022

Hello and welcome to my second annual top books list. Last year I read 37 books, and selected my top five . This year, thanks to audiobooks and novellas, I almost doubled that amount, ending the year with 60 completed books, so I’ve decided to upgrade to a top ten this year. Like last year, these books were chosen based on my personal taste/feelings and are not in any specific order. I read a variety of genres, but especially enjoy mythological retellings, horror, and mystery. 1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid I know I said these books weren’t in order, but this was easily the most enjoyable book I read this year. Accidental Death by Ruth Anna Evans

I found Ruth Anna Evans through Twitter and have become a quick fan. Her work is always dark and upsetting, but cathartic in that special way good horror is. Accidental Death, her latest short, is a heavy, but engaging read. I blasted through it in one sitting and even though I knew something horrible was going to happen, I had to see it through.  Jeremiah is a young man struggling with his responsibilities as a new parent. He makes a series of choices with dire consequences. What is particularly chilling about this story is that anyone could make the same choices. A night out with the guys or stay at home? Rush to the hospital after a few beers or let someone else drive? These are the choices that many face just in their regular lives. Unfortunately for Jeremiah, he chooses poorly and destroys several lives. The first half introduces us to Jeremiah and even though it's only a short story, I felt like I knew Jeremiah well.
